Oldenburg House in Pendleton Destroyed by Fire

A major fire engulfed the Oldenburg property known as the Dickson house on the north river hill in Pendleton. James Johns and his infant narrowly escaped as flames consumed the residence for over an hour with little chance to save furniture or clothing. The house, valued at about 6000 dollars, had only small insurance and belonged to L. Oldenburg of La Grange. The Johns family found temporary shelter with Rev. and Mrs. Charles Quinsey while seeking a new home. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
