The session convened for a first closed meeting this afternoon with preliminary matters. Important talks planned with several speakers to address business subjects after the public session at 9 30 PM in the tabernacle on South Street attracting a large crowd.
Two passenger trains moved swiftly in drift conditions without food and coal, with service only for a few days.
The West faces a broad gap of old and new snow conditions with a few local exceptions. A storm system is general today affecting the region with variable impacts across locations.

Judson Clements was today elected chairman of the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington. He succeeds Martin Knapp, who becomes a member of the court of commerce. Clements served as the ranking member of the commission.
In Connellsville Pennsylvania Jap 13 five bodies were removed from the McCorris store ruins with two not yet identified. Police and firemen continued search for possible victims as gas explosion is blamed for the disaster.
A severe cold snap grips the northwest with heavy snow in Montana the Dakotas and Alberta. Two men frozen to death in Montana and widespread livestock losses follow. Walla Walla reports snow endangering wheat as Medford records the coldest in twenty years. Train traffic deteriorates across the Great Northern routes in the Plains.
A dog owned by Henry Brill near Fox Hill showed hydrophobia and was killed after fear of exposure. Children in the Brill family played with the animal earlier, but none were bitten. Brill reported the incident to the city. details continue on page four.
Seven passengers died and twenty were injured when a New York Central rear end collision struck a Pullman sleeper at Batavia station. Victims were trapped beneath debris for hours before rescue. wrecking crews from Buffalo and Rochester moved in.
Mrs. John Gowan fatally burned when a gasoline iron exploded as she tried to refill it. Her husband John Gowan rushed home, extinguished the fire, and tried to revive her, but she died after doctors were summoned.
Nashville authorities report Bell Martin, suspected of drowning her six month old twin daughters, was held in jail today without bail after investigation into the case.
