In Chicago on January 25 26 wholesale prices fall as beef pork potatoes heat and corn ease by several percent eggs lead the relief trend. The grand jury begins meat trust probes but results likely won t be announced for two months amid slow deliberations.
Dayton January 25 Commander Peary said he believes Orville and Wilbur Wright may undertake an aeroplane trip to the North Pole after a conference where Peary answered many questions. Peary called the idea possible and the aviators asked with interest.
In Portland on January 2, the Hermann trial focused on ex-commissioner Binger Hermann. Heney nears case end as McVean testimony closes after over a day on the stand. Other former General Land Office employees may testify to alleged fraudulent practices and Hermann’s knowledge of land handling within a forest reserve.
Beneficiaries of small dividend checks issued by the Farmers and Traders National Bank Receiver Niedner are slow to cash them. He holds a large assortment unpaid, with some in vaults and others called for by owners yet unclaimed.
Registration now open at City Recorder’s office from 8 to 6 daily until March 4. Voters urged to register promptly as primary registrations apply to new movers within two years or those changing precincts, though all should register even if they have not moved.
Walla Walla January 25 The Farmers Association has let a contract for grain bags totaling about $2 000 000 at 5.47 12 cents per hundred compared with 6.82 last year The Fransioli Company of Tacoma will supply bags for delivery between June 15 and July 15.

Kalispell Mont Jan 25 One of the railroad’s greatest landslides blocks the Great Northern line at High Gate sixty miles east of here. Officials expect the tracks to be cleared before nightfall and traffic to resume soon.
