A mass meeting of 60 to 75 business men discussed saving the Mammarciel Club by increasing membership to 300 and addressing its $200 monthly deficit. A committee will canvass the city for new members beginning Monday, or the club may be sold to a hotel or lodging house.
Multnomah Republicans convene in Portland to set a platform for the primary fight. M. F. Griffin defeats F. F. Freeman for temporary chairman and is pledged to support statement No. 1 if tax questions arise, though delegates may avoid platform conflict by making statement No. 1 an issue.
In his acceptance speech Griffin stirs crowd by stating Governor Hughes of New York would become the next president. The report also notes a sensational letter from H L Packard to A G Webb accusing District Attorney Langdon of collusion with R A Crothers and Fremont Older, regarding Abe Ruef case, not yet delivered to the attorney general and generating comments.
