Chicago Feb 27 Wheat options fell sharply as panic spread after an attack on Lodge at the Board of Trade. May wheat slid from 1.18 to 1.14, July from 1.01 to 0.99, with corn also slipping modestly. Later the slump eased to around 1.16 and three quarters amid a trader panic reaction.
Petersburg February 27 United States demands lead to recall of cruiser Lene ordered to return to Russia and back to San Francisco. Crew reduced one grade as punishment with youth cited as sole excuse.

An explosion at United States Coal Co. mines eight miles east of Welch yesterday caused a mine fire and rescuers to abandon work. Initial death toll cited as fifteen, later revised to six with fears of higher totals.

New York Feb 27 The jury in the Brady divorce suit between Mrs Brady and Daniel Brady the wealthy railway supply manufacturer failed to agree on a verdict. Co respondent is actress Gertrude Mackengle. Mrs Brady is described as granddaughter of Isaac Singer inventor of the Singer Sewing Machine.
Chicago police officer Darel Hermann shot and killed Minnie Malvial at noon today on Bash Avenue. The deceased woman is identified as a wealthy liquor dealer. Authorities report the motive and exact circumstances remain under investigation.
