Famine Lifted as Rail Line Stores Coal for Emergencies
For the first time since coal was stored in the new line it is being moved to supply sudden or anticipated famine demands on the O. & O. R. R. and related routes. A shortage exists in Umatilla Pendleton and Kamolu yards, with 4200 tons stored for local distribution. A locomotive crane will load coal from bins to cars and deliver it to bunkers along the line, easing fuel shortages during the famine period.
