A reader addresses the editor to set the record straight on the first settlers of the Grande Ronde Valley. The author disputes prior statements, clarifies routes and origins, and explains hardships faced by early arrivals and the lack of intent to settle for gain. He recalls crossing routes and assistance needed upon arrival in September.

Be It Resolved by the council of La Grande Oregon to build a five foot sidewalk along the north side of Jackson avenue from North Fourth street to North Birch street at the expense of abutting property. Completion targeted within 90 days dated February 6 1908 signed I R Snook Recorder.
