Salem February 20 Four good roads measures move through the houses along with a 340000 appropriation raising total session funding to 4892000. The good roads association plans a jubilee in Portland tonight to celebrate the victory amid a noisy floor clash involving Clarke Streeter and Aubrey Smith.
Lawmakers from Union and Wallowa counties closed the session as lobbyists head home from Salem. Reports of last Saturday night in the house describe rot and uproar, with dispatches from the capital deemed insufficient to tell the full story.
The proposed law would create a county attorney for each county if passed by the legislature and signed by the governor. It would keep Ivanhoe as district head for Tn ton and Wallowa until F. 8, then split the district. Ivanhoe would hold both counties with a raised salary, unless vetoes erase changes. Current salaries total 2104, with new parity at 1800 Union and 900 Wallowa under the law. Analysts expect the governor to veto and repeal the bill.
A clerical recount notes a delegation from Wallowa county traveled to Salem to oppose a measure to place the high school question on the ballot, arguing it would require eight percent of voters and faced passage in the senate. The Enterriage delegation in the house, led by A. F. Pace, Jay H. Dobbin, and Rank, faced defeat in the senate despite a house win.
Farmers from every section of Union county are meeting in North Powder for a county session of the Farmers Co operative Union. President McAllister AL Norris and other prominent men attended, with more joining in Union. Important matters will be discussed before adjournment tonight.
