Pendraton Feb 10 John P McManus editor of the Pilot Rock Record shot and killed Robert Estes in the rear of the Pullman saloon on Main Street. The drunken editor claimed Estes had robbed him twice and may have been attempting a third taking his watch. An inquest returned a verdict that Estes died from a bullet fired by John P McManus.

Hermann Faces Criminal Charge In Land Office Destruction Case
Rep Binger Hermann of Oregon appeared before Justice Stafford in Washington on February 11 as the long pending case over alleged destruction of letter press copybooks while he exited the General Land Office continues. Hermann a Republican from Oregon's first district, has been reelected to Congress since the charges were filed. He was born in Maryland, taught school, then practiced law after 1866 admission to Oregon bar, and held several state and federal posts including deputy revenue collector and Roseburg land office receiver before departing the office amid the accusations.

Wreck at Junction City Fails Passenger Train
