Bakersfield report states entombed miner L B Hicks has been approached by two Southern California maids offering marriage. He refuses to name them and plans to locate the writers after his theatrical plans proceed.
Five laborers were injured when a wall under construction collapsed on Pine and Battery Streets. Two workers were believed fatally hurt as brick and stone crushed the foundation area, burying and trapping several men.
In Los Angeles on December 29 the federal grand jury indicted the Santa Fe railroad for rebating. Officials and citizens are believed involved alongside the company.
The ferry Palvyon of the Erie Railroad Company with fifty passengers aboard collided with a freight lighter on North River and sank. All crew and passengers were rescued. Eighteen drowned due to a heavy fog during the accident.
Twenty workers forced entry into Col. Obrutshoff's house killing him and binding servants before setting the residence on fire. Obrutshoff was formerly in command at Lodz and accused of brutality against rioters.
Special commissioner Purdy, sent by the President to investigate the Brownsville affair, has affidavits from twenty witnesses who saw African American soldiers firing on Brownsville homes. He reports witnesses also saw soldiers jump fort walls and flee toward town.
After a conference this afternoon Secretary Bonaparte and Delvin announced a course of action on the Japanese school question. Plans will not be made public at present.

In St Helens Oregon Bert Hulman aged 15 admitted fatally shooting his foster mother Mrs Sarah Ayers near Warren last night. Authorities say the motive was revenge for punishment and note the youth was adopted from the Boys and Girls Aid Society.
Boise Idaho December 29 Harry Orchard who confessed to assassinating former governor Steunenburg was moved to Caldwell to appear before the district court. The case was continued for the term.
In Dover New Hampshire early today robbers assaulted bookkeeper Charles Goldthwaite of Fish Bros brick yards. They set the plant on fire causing an estimated loss of 500000 dollars. Goldthwaite survived the attack.
