City Council approves 18 mill tax and 80 year water franchise

The city council met last night and levied an 18 mill tax for 1905 and granted an 80 year franchise to Morgan Lake Co. for electric light operations. An ordinance set street grading base using a USGS monument near the Foley House showing 2789 feet above sea level. A stone culvert on Main Street was ordered. Mayor Blazer adjourned after midnight following section by section debate.

William Alvord dies prominent California banker and citizen

William Alvord of San Francisco president of the Bank of California and former park commissioner died today. He was a well known California citizen and banker.

A Tokio cablegram reports Port Arthur army trophies at the north fort of Tonkeskwanabao include four quick firers two usable four machine guns all usable and five field guns under examination with rifles shells ammunition and grenades. Razor Trial Opens in Commercial Club Parlor

Circuit Court convened at nine for the State of Oregon versus Albert Razor in the Elgin killing of Ben Bows on January 29. A jury of nineteen was examined, with 600 spectators present. District Attorney Lomax and Crawford & Crawford represent the state, Neal McLeod and White and Winnifree the defense.
