Walter Denny faced charges for taking quilts from room forty in the annex of the Rice Mountain house. Evidence supported the judge placing him under a bond of three hundred dollars to appear before the next term of the Circuit Court.
Denney testified he secured the whiskey used Sunday to drink by provision against threat the day before theft occurred. He served in Company B from Roseburg and Ashland during the Spanish American War. his home is Ashland. He is short of money and plans to become a county boarder.
WRC Election WREO No. 87 held a pleasant meeting Friday afternoon electing officers for the ensuing year. President Mrs Sarah Kilpatrick Sen, Vice President Mrs Annie M Baker, Secretary Mrs Winnie Thorne, Treasurer Mrs Addie M Grout, Chaplin Mrs Marr Davis, Conductor Mrs Agnes Paddock, Officer Mrs Alera If Lyle, Delegates to the state convention to be elected at next regular meeting. Annie M Naker, President Correspondent Mr and Mrs W Green of Baker City returned home last evening.
The McCabe Construction Co. has won the contract to build a seven mile portage road from Celilo to Wales in Oregon, opening 199 miles of Columbia River navigation and 100 miles of Snake River passage. Joseph McCace of Walla Walla chairs the firm, aiming to boost Northern Pacific routes and challenge the O R N Union Pacific link.
Mary MacDonald born in 1770 celebrates old age at the Home for Aged and Infirm Colored Persons on Forty-fourth Street and Girard Avenue. Despite a frame reduced to three feet and seventy pounds, she recalls the Revolutionary era with a vivid memory of Valley Forge winters and early American history.
Washington's army camped near her home. Mrs MacDonald, though feeble with great age, remains cheerful. Attendants expect she may live to see several more birthdays. The 1904 census shows 3,436 people aged 100 or more. 1,259 men and 2,247 women, including 854 black men and 1,087 black women.
The steer Clear Lake Jave won the international grind championship at the Livestock Show in progress. It sold for 836 per 100 pounds, topping the sale and drawing attention at the Chicago event.

Prosecutor Hall requests acquittal for Marie Ware after the defense rests. The judge takes the matters under advisement as proceedings adjourn for Monday.
The Island City camp of the Modern Woodmen will host a grand meeting tomorrow evening. About a dozen candidates will be introduced to the order, with brother Simmona delivering a lecture. All Woodmen in the state are invited to attend.
