Walter Denny faced charges for taking quilts from room forty in the annex of the Rice Mountain house. Evidence supported the judge placing him under a bond of three hundred dollars to appear before the next term of the Circuit Court.

Ashland Soldier Linked to Whiskey Theft in Court

Denney testified he secured the whiskey used Sunday to drink by provision against threat the day before theft occurred. He served in Company B from Roseburg and Ashland during the Spanish American War. his home is Ashland. He is short of money and plans to become a county boarder.

WRC Election WREO No. 87 held a pleasant meeting Friday afternoon electing officers for the ensuing year. McCabe Construction Wins Dalles Portage Road Contract

The McCabe Construction Co. has won the contract to build a seven mile portage road from Celilo to Wales in Oregon, opening 199 miles of Columbia River navigation and 100 miles of Snake River passage. Joseph McCace of Walla Walla chairs the firm, aiming to boost Northern Pacific routes and challenge the O R N Union Pacific link.

Centenarian Mary MacDonald Remains Sharp in Philadelphia Home

Mary MacDonald born in 1770 celebrates old age at the Home for Aged and Infirm Colored Persons on Forty-fourth Street and Girard Avenue. Despite a frame reduced to three feet and seventy pounds, she recalls the Revolutionary era with a vivid memory of Valley Forge winters and early American history.
