A petition asks the council to strictly enforce existing bicycle laws or prohibit sidewalk riding. The Spirit Department notes no new ordinance passed but promises strict enforcement of current rules. An arrest has already occurred for violating laws related to bicycles.
A heated council discussion led to enforcing a streets and sidewalks ordinance. Violators face fines from four to five hundred dollars as wheel riders must bell, light lamps, and dismount for pedestrians. First arrest shows enforcement with L. B. McClain fined five dollars after pleading guilty.
Nine applicants filed for Hermiston area desert land to be irrigated by a government project next spring. Lines formed after Pendleton and Hermiston arrivals, with claim sizes 19 to 40 acres and payments of 60 cents per acre water charge plus 1.60 yearly maintenance. The eager group dispersed when land office opened, then reassembled as doors opened.
A legal notice lists Roy Alexander Bertha Alexander and Robert R. Lewis from Pendleton along with Frank J. Thomas Francis H Bartlett Charles A Meyers James M Scarborough and Samuel E Loudensinger of Hermiston. They return home this morning and are asked to present estate claims to executor William M. McBeth or attorney R Lloyd in Elgin Oregon within six months from November 21 1805.
The county court of Union County Oregon appoints a named executor for the will of Duncan McBeth deceased. Creditors and claimants are notified to present their claims according to law to the executor at the specified address within the required period. The notice serves to settle debts and distribute the estate as directed by the will.
