D. R. and Co plans to refill local coal bunkers after last summer’s bunker fire. About 20 000 tons were stored in the affected bunkers and the fire required hauling out most of the coal to extinguish it. A large crew will be employed to restart refilling with a different coal grade to reduce future risk. The fire damaged coal valued at roughly $140 000.

Witnesses include John F Pender David Brichoux Johann Xteseil Basel Lever and F C Bramwell with Portland Oregon and La Grande Oregon addresses.
