Methodists Acquire Weiser Academy in Idaho for Jason Lee Memorial
Idaho conference officials report the Commercial Club of Weiser has agreed to purchase the Weiser Academy and gift it to the conference with a five year guarantee of operation. The site near Weiser overlooks the Snake River and 85 acres will be cultivated. The academy will offer Classified Musical and Commercial courses with a three person board of trustees led by Presiding Elder J. D. Gillian. The work will begin with fall term opening by October first and initial funding seeks about $5000 for equipment and maintenance. Contributions are being solicited by Rev. B. F. Meredith and F. S. Harding.

New Torpedo Destroyers Planned With Greater Range
Washington D C Aug 30 The naval board of construction is studying preliminary plans for government torpedo boat destroyers to be built this year. The vessels will be larger than previous ones but not the largest, merging toward the scout class and reflecting foreign development. The destroyer is set to have higher speed larger radius, stronger armament and a deeper fighting role in submarine defense and harbor monitors. Also notes on the National Irrigation Congress in Boise Idaho Sept 3 to 8 and railroad ticket terms. Treasurer calls for city warrants indicating funds exist to pay outstanding General Fund warrants through No 6289 with interest ceasing on Nos 5234 to 5289, and Water Fund warrants through No 6284 with interest ceasing on Nos 6068 to 6284, La Grande Oregon.

Accident at Walla Walla Leaves Man Severely Mangled
Emil Cameron, a Spokane Pendleton flyer passenger, was crushed between the platform and buffet car at Walla Walla yesterday afternoon. While attempting to reboard after visiting a restaurant, he was dragged by the moving train and severely mangled. A former O R N employee, he had switch keys on him similar to those used in railroad work.
