Figures from the Passenger Department show La Grande and Union County celebrating a record year. Passenger receipts from June 30 1907 to June 30 1908 total 115 784 41 with a year over year gain of 21 194 41 indicating growing commercial activity and prosperity in the city.
Spokane Washington August 18 Thirty five thousand dollars in prizes and trophies will be distributed among the exhibitors at the National Apple Show the first of its kind in the country opening in Spokane December 7.
Utica dispatch notes Julius C. Burrows urging support for James Schoolcraft Sherman as Republican nominee for vice president. Burrows cites five past presidential vacancies and urges the need for a capable vice president to ensure continuity of government. In Justice Angus Stewart's court Nels Holvorson stood charged with selling liquor under the local option law. A Mexican suspect attacked Mrs Yorba severing her throat from ear to ear and killed her instantly before being subdued. the son was also wounded and hospitalized with a fractured neck. Police pursue leads as mystery surrounds the case.
