A morning blaze in Baker City destroyed a deputy sheriff Snow’s barn and damaged an adjacent barn belonging to W J Lawdner. A nearby house owned by Snow suffered partial destruction. Loss estimated at $2500. Fire deemed incendiary in origin.
William K Roosevelt, a second cousin of the president, will be a student at Idaho University next year and aims to become a mining engineer.
Baker City ore August shipments delayed as cattle shippers protest a new law requiring a $3 brand inspection fee before shipment. Several small consignments await departure but costs prompt calls for relief or alternative arrangements.
The Snake River water level is lower than any time in last year’s dry season with further declines expected as snow has vanished from the mountains and rain remains unlikely.
