Scripps dispatches report envoys at 9:30 am discussing Japan's interest in Korea and a protectorate while preparing documents on the Korean and Chinese railroads. First article agreed. next session to address Japanese acquisition of railway lines. Czar seeks peace as unrest grows in Russia.
The bark Coryphone, under Capt Millan, struck a reef off Caperiice of Wales on Saturday and sank within thirty minutes. Thirty crew and passengers escaped to small boats and were rescued last night by the revenue steamer and landed in Nome today.
A Saturday evening lawn party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Mere Chas and Riddie entertained friends and neighbors in honor of sister Mrs. White and friend Mrs. Scott visiting from Clio Michigan. Guests enjoyed lantern decorations, chat, a lute nook, and a game of Ruth and Jacob before Mr. and Mrs. Grandy sang.
Eighteen new fever cases and seven deaths were reported to noon in New Orleans. The day saw many charges accusing property owners of not screening their delaters. Twelve new cases were in the ninth parish.
Gladys Roosevelt aged sixteen and her sister Eugenie aged eighteen are injured after a runaway on Saville Street. Gladys is reported as perhaps fatally injured. They are daughters of John F Roosevelt, nephew of the President.
The Oregon Produce Company completed a brick storage building measuring sixty by one hundred ten feet with a ten foot basement. Together with its street-mate across the way it will store about three hundred car loads of produce. An ice plant will produce ten tons of artificial ice daily, with installation planned for the winter trade. The company is a major county institution poised to handle all local produce.
W D Grandy and James Russell of Taland City purchased the Bock and Thomas meat markets and the Jeff Bull market. They plan to continue the business in the established style. Beck and Thomas will remain in the city, with La Grand and Ball also continuing nearby.
Linevitch reports that he was attacked by the Japanese along the Mandari roads on Sunday. The Japs were repulsed after a sharp fight.
Secretary of War Taft and his party arrived in the Philippines this evening and will be accorded a ceremonial reception.
The Termacie won the international yacht race in Rochester New York leading all competitors by five minutes.
Chairman Shoats and Gen Earnest of the Panama Canal Commission said the government will distribute provisions to 20,000 men. They admitted an initial misstep by attempting work without adequate employee support. Transportation now runs daily and refrigerator steamers supply American laborers abroad as if they were home.
The Rinehart clan schedules an annual gathering in Portland Oregon from September 11 through September 16. Participants are urged to arrange meals lodging themselves and to register their city address with the Oregon building secretary on arrival. J H Rinehart will arrange camping grounds in September for those who notify ahead.
Washington dispatch reports Congo General Rodgers in Shang hai notes foreign residents fear an anti foreign uprising linked to the boycott of American goods. The U S government has pressed China under the Tien Tain treaty to keep American commerce free and uninterrupted and holds China responsible for any treaty violations. Advices say boycott promoters aim to block landing of American goods.

Early ballot count in Norway shows 292 400 as the result of the dissolution vote between Norway and Sweden. Details indicate the tally reflects the initial hours of counting and will influence the final decision.
Final memorial services were held in San Diego for Bennington disaster victims. Survivors and Chicago ship officers attended as Bishop Kendrick and Chaplain Stone spoke. The Bennington and Chicago depart this afternoon, with burial at Point Loma and a salute by a detachment.
On the way to perform at a function yesterday Ralston suffered heart failure with stomach trouble. He collapsed near the Presbyterian church, was revived after water and cooling, and taken home. This morning he felt better and returned to work but later grew weak. Doctors expect a quick recovery within a few days.
In Weetfall a disturbance led Town Marshal Carry to confront Frank Cammann, a saloon barkeeper. Cammann drew a pistol and was shot by Carry, dying instantly. The incident occurred during an arrest attempt at the saloon.
