The Southern Carnival Co opens a week in the city with Diavolo the daredevil who rides a loop-the-loop bicycle twice daily. He takes his life on the ride, claims insurance bans, and explains the fault was a misaligned runway. The act headlines a program including Hammer & Stone cycle thrillers and other feats.
The Pendleton wheat market showed strong activity with an estimated 60 000 bushels trading hands at 60 to 61 cents. Over the past week quotations fell about 3 cents, but farmers waited for higher prices, selling portions only to cover expenses as export sales look unlikely. Local millers are paying 65 cents for club wheat and have ample new wheat to last several months.
John B Chamberlain age 80 died yesterday of senile decay at Ironside Malheur County Oregon. He had traveled from Dayton annually to preach to rural communities far from a railroad. His body was taken by wagon to Baker City for embalming before shipment to Dayton. Funeral services will be held Friday at the Methodist Episcopal Church South under Masonic auspices.

The ordinance requires water rates to be paid in advance on the first day of each month at the water superintendent's office, with meters due the following month. nonpayment within ten days leads to shut off.
