Curtis Denies Gore Charges In Oklahoma Contracts Probe

Senator Curtis testified before the Gore contracts inquiry that he never benefited from the McMurray contracts on Indian lands in Oklahoma. He said he is on the Indian affairs committee and knew Murray and Gore, but never met Hamen. Fire fighters near Jordan fire march to forest blaze

Forty men were sent from Beaver Creek to join a growing forest fire on Jordan creek. Forest Ranger Thomas Parker organized the response with city aid and a government crew to protect Beaver Creek watersheds. Residents report no imminent threat to La Grande's water supply, though timber damage is possible. The convoy included a large commissary stack and 35 assistants ready to aid until flames are contained.
