La Crosse welcomed about 3,500 attendees on the fairgrounds for opening day despite morning showers. Early rain and overcast skies did not dampen enthusiasm as residents abandoned business to enjoy the start of the Inter-State fair.
Burt Williams Democratic candidate for governor opened his campaign in Sheboygan denouncing Governor Philipp and linking state expenses and commissions to privilege seeking corporations. He cited tax reductions totaling about five million dollars in one year and criticized the grade crossing decision impacting Milwaukee.
Police report an uneventful start to the Interstate fair with the usual suspects not appearing. A group of men, known to authorities, arrived Monday night but departed voluntarily after friendly urging from locals.
