Tech District approves first budget for 1969 funding
The Western Wisconsin Technical Institute district plans a 1.27 mill tax levy raising 949 670.19 toward a 1 674 414.93 1969 budget. Tuition and fees, state aids, and federal aids plus other revenues cover the rest. The district now spans La Crosse Monroe and parts of several counties and will assess taxes independently for the first time.

WWII Studies Year-Round Operation Approved by Board
The district board approved studying a switch of Western Wisconsin Technical Institute to a quarter system with potential year round operation. Richard son described four 12 week quarters per year and year round courses. Some staff would work three quarters. summer use requires air conditioning. Five Priests Among War Protesters Arrested in Milwaukee
Fourteen people including five Roman Catholic priests were arrested after destroying thousands of draft records at a Milwaukee Selective Service office. Protesters, who called themselves the Milwaukee Fourteen, sang prayed and moved the sacks of burned records to a park. They aimed to halt inductions for about 27 000 eligibles though the draft director said disruptions were unlikely to stop or delay inductions. Authorities set bonds from 25 000 to 30 000 dollars and charged all with arson burglary and criminal damage to property with two added for theft of a key.
