Wind driven flames swept four frame rooming houses near Coney Island killing nine and injuring fifteen as two nearby fires raised suspicions of arson. Authorities pursued detectives amid chaotic scenes and a possible pyromaniac link.
In a 42 to 12 vote the U N General Assembly shelves the question of seating Red China until 1956 with the United States leading the motion. British and other powers supported shelving while Molotov pressed for Peiping. The session opens with Jose Maza elected president as the agenda moves to a Steering Committee review.
The House Appropriations Committee opened an inquiry into a $2.4 billion Air Force contract with AT&T and Western Electric to build a semiautomatic ground environment system. The deal, begun with eight combat centers and 32 direction centers, faces congressional authorization questions and possible penalties if not approved. The dispute centers on whether Congress authorized the project and the potential political leverage ahead of elections.

Donald Scott said a buxom blonde suspect seen possibly in San Jose may drive the effort, as agencies in San Francisco Marin and Santa Clara counties coordinate the case. Robert is the three day old son of Dr. and Mrs. Sanford Marcus.
The state of siege in Tunisia, in effect for more than 15 years, was lifted today as the Bey of Tunis signed a decree submitted by Adm. M. Laurin.

In Georgetown Colorado an 11 man rescue team wearing breathing apparatus found the bodies of two missing Kansas uranium prospectors, Glenn Dew aged 33 and Melvin LeBlow aged 45 of Ulysses, after a three day search. Their bodies were located about 6000 feet from the mine entrance. The pair disappeared Thursday afternoon as two companions at the shaft entrance went to summon aid.
Harry M. Curtis, 83, of 1315 Main St., died Wednesday morning in a local hospital. Funeral arrangements, handled by Sletten-McKee Funeral Home, will be announced later.
Carol Elizabeth Robin, 33, of 1612 Ferry St., admitted to a two year theft spree. Detectives say she stole $150 from two Galesville stores to fund earlier La Crosse burglaries. She pleaded guilty to larceny in County Court and awaits sentence as she faces possible additional charges. Bond was set at $1,000.
