Nathaniel Frey, veteran Burlington road railroad official, resigns as master mechanic after years in service. Frey served as general foreman in 1869 and held the master mechanic post for eighteen years before leaving to attend to private business matters.
Nathaniel Frey, long-time master mechanic of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy at Grand Crossing, resigns effective October 1 citing ill health and pressing business. Born 1850 in Erie, Pa, Frey built a lifelong rail career from Davenport to La Crosse and Savanna, Ill, with the Burlington for 38 years. He serves as vice president of Security Savings bank and holds extensive private interests in De Soto, Wis.
The report states that a former Missouri governor is named by Wilson to serve as solicitor for a department, with the formal appointment announced in Washington. The action ties the named official to the department’s legal and policy framework.
In Sandusky Ohio on September 18 an excursion train of Eagles from Bellevue to Sandusky derailed at Big Four crossing near Castalia. The Lake Shore electric car struck a telephone pole, toppled and was overturned with two possibly fatally injured and about a dozen others seriously hurt.
