Former officer charged in murder of 12 year old girl
Robert John Erler Jr., 24, a former Hollywood police officer, is charged with second degree murder in the killing of 12 year old Marilyn Clark whose body was found with five bullets in the head. He resigned Sept 5 for personal reasons. A nationwide bulletin is out for him as armed and dangerous. The mother was wounded and found four miles from the girl. A man phoned police saying he had killed three people.

U S District Judge Sarah T Hughes ordered Lanpar Co to destroy all dosages containing both digitalis and thyroid in the same pill and to stop interstate sale of digitalis for weight loss. Additional fatalities included Carol Janz 25 rural West Bend from a pole crash near Fillmore and Elgin Harding 18 Tomahawk a Minnesota youth killed when his car overturned near Tomahawk. Harding had been AWOL from Fort Hood and the stolen car was being pursued.
