In Houston county primary races Lloyd L. Duxbury Jr. narrowly led Olaf J. Krome by 12 votes in a five man field for the first district seat. Duxbury, a Caledonia attorney, leads across 24 precincts as the count tallies conclude.
Preston Minn reports about 5000 votes cast in Fillmore county on primary day. John A. Johnson leads the state senate contest with 2258 votes, followed by Eldon Holness 1777 and Hughes 634. Clair Dotzenrud tops school superintendent contenders, while Nick Crowley leads in the commission district two race. many offices were unopposed.
President Truman asked Congress to carve an exception allowing General George C. Marshall to serve as secretary of defense while still on active duty. The Senate armed services committee approved the measure 10 to 2, with action urged quickly. House panel postponed until Friday as leaders push for final passage and an amendment to the law.
Gov Oscar Rennebohm campaigned in La Crosse praising State Sen Foster Porter Bloomington for the third district race and endorsing Walter J Kohler Jr as his successor. He spoke to over 125 county GOP leaders at the Stodgard hotel calling Porter fearless and steadfast under pressure.

Brigadier General Gar Davidson, 47, West Point football immortal, commanded a secret United Nations task force northwest of Kyongju. The unit trapped about 3,000 Red Koreans, sealing the southern gate of a mountain corridor near Pohang and protecting the Pohang airfield.
Red Feather campaign chairman Glen Bowman announced five top chairmen for the General sales phase of the Community Chest appeal. Arthur L. Christensen of Northern States Power Co will lead the general sales divisions. Carrol J. Weigel, local attorney, heads the men’s sales army for small businesses downtown and north side districts. Mrs. Gunnar Gundersen of Ebner’s Coulee will head the women’s sales army. Mrs. Joseph ee of Wilson boulevard Irman leads the women’s division covering residential and suburban areas. Gysbert Van Steenwyk of La Crosse Trust Co will lead the special gifts division.
Senator Charles W. Tobey won the New Hampshire Republican nomination for a third term by a tight margin over Wesley Powell. Powell may seek a recount as results show Tobey 39,003 to Powell 37,76, with results also noting other states voting in six races. Allied forces in Korea prepared for an offensive led by Lt. Gen. Walton H. Walker as they pressure the Red Korean lines and seal gains from a three-day drive, including a trap near Angang and Pohang.

La Crosse county draft board planned a 102 man pre induction trip by three chartered buses but five men were missing at 6 am. Officials suspect they traveled by private car to Minneapolis for exams though no advance permission was granted. Two names were known. no report from the Minneapolis center yet.
Two people were partially overcome by gas and taken to a local hospital at 11 01 Wednesday. Mrs Frank Woelf 60 of 4272 North Sixth street had hired Pete Peterson 77 of 424 North Fourth street to repair a cooking stove. The wrong valve was shut off before work started and gas filled the room. Woelf was carried by police ambulance Peterson by an unnamed driver to hospital.
A coroner's jury found Clifford Brown died from injuries after being struck by an automobile that did not stop. The session, led by County Coroner Dr. George Reay, heard seven witnesses who described the crash at Third and State streets and the car fleeing toward Vine Street.
