Hundreds of white students boycotted West End High in Birmingham and Tuskegee Public School as desegregation began. Attendance fell at West End, Tuskegee had only about 20 percent present, while Ramsay High and Graymont Elementary remained largely peaceful. National States Rights party flyers urged boycott.

Bus overturns in Shamrock rainstorm injuring 28
A Greyhound bus with 36 aboard skidded and overturned 12 miles west of Shamrock Texas as a heavy rainstorm soaked U S 66. Twenty two remained hospitalized overnight including several from Oshkosh Wisconsin. Traffic conditions were worsened by a power gust and near blindness from lightning.

South Side high school plan trimmed to 2.97 million

The family was headed from Hastings Nebraska to Silverdale Washington when the single engine craft stalled in a downdraft.
