Gessler Funeral This Afternoon
Funeral services for John Gessler brewmaster of Heileman Brewing for nineteen years and father-in-law of Judge Ikey Karel were held at 927 South Fourth Street at 2 PM. J L Utermoeh delivered the eulogy as a quartet performed by Charles J Bitzer, R Humboldt, and H O Klein.
Gessler Funeral Honors Longtime Brewery Chief
J. L. Utermoehl assisted at the musical service. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery with honorary pallbearers E. T. Mueller Henry Gund C. F. Michel Joseph Bartl J. L. Erickson and Oscar Hussa Bangor and active pallbearers Louis Silberschmidt E. C. Bartl Ernest Chitel L. Schoen Fred Wenzel George Neucom. Mr. Gessler died at home of stomach hemorrhage after a two week illness. As head of Heileman Brewing, he originated the world famous Old Style Lager. He had earlier worked ten years with Michel Brewing. He was a well known early city resident. Family members including Judge Karel of Milwaukee attended. The body was buried beside Mrs. Gessler.

Tragic Boat Collision Drowns Langford Family at Iowa Slough
In Lansing Iowa on a Tuesday afternoon a motor launch driven by Albert Langford lost control and struck a flat scow where his mother Mrs Frank Langford and three siblings were fishing. Nellie Langford was rescued while John Francis and Mabel Langford and Mrs Langford were drowned. Search parties recovered the children but not Mrs Langford by nightfall. The incident occurred near the Drowning Buoy on Winnesheik slough five miles south of Lansing as the family had fished since morning awaiting Albert’s return.
