Acting on instructions from District Attorney Lucien Reid, Undersheriff Lose Friday seized night punchboards from eight stores in La Crosse. County officials discuss possible warrants for cigar and candy shop proprietors. A prior warned crackdown led to a temporary removal of all punchboards across area before resuming.
St Peter's Catholic church on Middle Ridge, a handsome new edifice, has been completed. The exterior is ornate and the interior magnificent with wall paintings depicting Christ from the Annunciation to Calvary. An illuminated window scheme and a stunning altar are featured. The church includes hot water heating, electric lighting, basement pumping plants, and a large basement auditorium for moving pictures, plays, and suppers.
The worst stretch of road between Chicago and Milwaukee is retired as Wilbur-Greon Volka dedicates a new cement road through Zion with a brief prayer. When the remaining section under construction is finished, the full eighty miles between Chicago and Milwaukee will be improved.

The League of Nations council on Saturday considered the U S reply on mandates. It found the note a satisfactory basis for continued negotiations but withheld permission to settle the mandate question at the upcoming assembly. Grace M. Lusk of Waukesha serving a 20 year sentence for the killing of David Roberts asks Governor Blaine for a pardon. A pardon hearing is scheduled for September 14 in Madison. Lusk was convicted May 30, 1918 and imprisoned June 20. Reports say she has been a model prisoner but ill, with a recent temporary release to visit her dying father.
