Debates to Feature Carter Ford In Televised Showdown
Democratic nominee Jimmy Carter and Republican nominee Gerald Ford agreed to three nationally televised debates with the first on September 23. The League of Women Voters will sponsor, and an additional VP debate between Bob Dole and Walter Mondale will follow after the second Ford-Carter clash. Carter and Ford praised the agreement as voters get an honest picture of the candidates. Carter released tax returns showing 1975 income of 136,138 and net worth about 811,982. Ford’s net worth was listed at 323,489. Dole campaigned in Georgia criticizing Carter's record as governor.
