Halloween pumpkin carving contest at WWTI
Western Wisconsin Technical Institute hosted a pumpkin carving contest sponsored by the DECA chapter. Students carved jack o lanterns from pumpkins donated by Allan Craig son of Mr and Mrs Clay ton Craig of R J Mindoro. Prizes were awarded and the jack o lanterns were distributed in the pediatric wards of La Crosse Lutheran Hospital and St Francis Hospital.

Two Teens Rescued Woman From River Attempted Suicide
Wendy Cross 16 and Willow Shepard 15, both Logan High School sophomores, saved a 55-year-old Sparta area woman who jumped into the Black River near Copeland Park. Police say the girls acted decisively, with Cross swimming to reach the woman and Shepard summoning help, ultimately pulling her to safety and to a dock. The woman was treated at St. Francis Hospital for exposure and distress. The incident occurred around 6:08 p.m. and witnesses describe the students as instrumental in the rescue.
