Cops To Probe Crashes On New Jersey Turnpike
New Jersey State Police ordered a detailed investigation into a series of fog and smoke related crashes on the Turnpike near Kearny Newark area. Nine people died and more than 40 injured in three major pileups and many chain reactions as smoke from a Hackensack meadowlands fire reduced visibility. Police said the highway was closed promptly once the hazard was realized and noted a prior crash near Bordentown last Friday left eight dead and 13 injured.
