Gen Felix Diaz Mexican presidential candidate and target of Huerta’s opposition is quartered in the U S consulate in Vera Cruz under American protection. Diaz was moved from his brother in law’s home by Consul Canada and John Lind with Marines. The Moro Castle steamship carrying Mrs Lind and eight Vera Cruz state lawmakers was detained by Mexican authorities before clearing to Havana and New York.
