Paratroopers Cut Off Red Retreat Toward Manchuria

The United States on Friday ordered a 25 percent cut in natural rubber use by tire and rubber firms effective November 1. The regulation limits total rubber use to 84 percent of monthly base-year averages and tightens latex use for October through December. B 29 Blown To Bits By Explosion Eight Die

Reserve Blood Depot Planned in La Crosse

A reserve blood depot will be set up in La Crosse at St Francis Hospital with space provided to store whole blood for emergencies. The La Crosse Police Department will deliver supplies, under Police Chief George C Long, to support four area hospitals until Madison regional Red Cross center deliveries arrive. Any unneeded blood after 21 days will be returned to Madison to be processed as plasma. The plan, already used in other Madison region sites, should start within days.
