La Crosse Jaycees honored three individuals at a Tuesday banquet at the New Villa. Robert D. Wendorf of La Crosse received the Outstanding Young Farmer Award, Patrolman Gary T. Westlie of La Crosse the Outstanding Young Law Enforcement Officer Award, and Joan R. Markos of La Crosse the Outstanding Young Educator Award. Wendorf, a dairy farmer, began with five head of cattle in 1962.

Walter A Baeder former president of La Crosse Garment Industries Inc died at 75 on Oct 17 in La Crosse He joined the firm in 1920 working from accountant to president retiring in 1971 Baeder led a company that grew from 150 employees in the 1930s to about 1700 at its peak with multiple La Crosse sites and a Rag Bag retail outlet He is survived by Irene and three children with ties to Dresbach Minn and La Crosse.

The Wisconsin traffic fatalities rose to 896 after a Princeton man and Milwaukee woman died in separate crashes. Richard Pluer, 63, died when his car left Green Lake County Trunk D near Princeton and hit an abutment. Judith Stuke, 31, of Milwaukee, died in a two car collision on Milwaukee's south side.
