Ter re Haute Ind Oct 16 A recovered mill hand recounts the deadly glazing mill explosion caused by hot box friction on shafting sending sparks into loose powder The survivor William Sherrow says loose boxing on the shafting overheated and sparked the blast prompting damages claims against Powder Trust.
Fontanet Ind Oct 16 1500 homeless camped on blood stained grounds after daytime explosion. Mill yard scattered with ashes and splintered limbs. Supt Houghton helped provide shelter via Big Four train and meals. Supt Monahan and family perished. fear of further explosions lingers as lawyers consider action against the mills.
A committee of the La Crosse Manufacturers and Jobbers Union will meet next Monday evening to prepare a report aimed at boosting home consumption of home goods. A subsequent meeting will present the report and may also elect officers for the coming year.
