Milk Shortage Possible Says Dairy Official
INDIANAPOLIS AP There is a definite possibility of a critical shortage of milk and dairy products this fall a dairy association official says. Wayne Miller field service supervisor for the Mid-States Region of Associated Milk Producers Inc warns of possible retail price increases in the next three or four months. He notes weekly drain of standby pools from processing plants in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Since Jan 1 Indiana dairy production fell 7 percent while Class 1 milk price rose $2.10 per hundredweight. Miller cites 250 Hoosier dairy farmers sold out this year and per farm production down due to high feed costs and beef prices making dairy cattle sale more profitable.
