State health officials report rising public worry after the first confirmed swine flu case since the nationwide vaccine program began. Reactions appear mostly as phone inquiries rather than vaccine rushes at clinics, with some reports of limited clinic activity.
A swine flu clinic will be held Monday at the City Hall Health Department from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 7 p.m., with both bivalent and monovalent vaccines available for adults 18 and older. Officials note cold weather boosts flu awareness and expect higher turnout in light of the Missouri case.
La Crosse officials disclose receiving an unanticipated 53000 dollar federal grant. Mayor Patrick Zielke notes the funds add a new revenue line for city projects and will be allocated per federal guidelines.

The debt service was cut by 60 thousand and then by 14 thousand, with aldermen debating reinstating the small cut as district leaders warned of levy impacts and education quality.
Wisconsin basketball freshmen Arnold Gaines and James Gregory were jailed in Dane County on burglary charges after campus dormitory thefts. They faced arraignment and potential formal charges while UW coach Bill Cofield awaited developments. Also arrested were Raymond Sydnor, 18, and others tied to the incident at Tripp Hall.
Brother Peter Clifford was installed as the 10th president of St. Mary's College in Winona Minnesota. An academic procession welcomed him during a 2:30 pm ceremony attended by representatives from about 40 colleges and universities. The 51 year old New York City native aims to carry the college’s message to leaders in church education government and business and stressed financial solvency as key to success. Clifford formerly served as associate dean of the School of Education at St. John’s University New York.
A federal grand jury in St Paul has indicted 20 year old Timothy Klemenko of Shoreview for derailing a Soo Line train last August. He is charged with breaking a lock on a switch near Interstate 694 and turning the switch, causing over $20,000 in damage.
