Central Saengerbund leaders depart La Crosse by the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul train for a courtesy tour of Chicago and Milwaukee. The mission is to promote the 1908 Saengerfest with festive, large scale entertainment planned in Chicago and Milwaukee.
Minnesota republicans applauded Robert M. La Follette as a presidential candidate at a State Shippers Association meeting in St Paul renewed by Wisconsin speakers and Minnesota attendees. Senators Clapp Sunberg and Johnson praised La Follette for a square deal and reforms.
Bank Examiner Moxey testified that Walsh obtained millions from three banks by depositing bonds and stock of his companies as security. Entries showed Walsh withdrew over two hundred thousand on many days and credited it to his own account. Memorandum notes exceed 1.57 million.
George Esch brother of Congressmen John J. Esch has arrived in the city and will accompany the representative to Washington to serve as his private secretary.
About six hundred quarrymen struck in Joliet causing eight quarries to idle. They rejected a proposed nine hour day at 1.75 dollars after previously working ten hours for 2 dollars.
Thomas First, a pioneer farmer who helped settle Chaseburg, died this morning at his daughter’s home in the city after a yearlong illness. He aged 76 and left four sons and four daughters. Surviving are Joseph W., Wenzel, Mary, Kate of Chaseburg. Thomas of St Paul. Anna of New Prague. Frank of Chicago. and Mrs Joseph Wietecka. Funeral Friday at 9:30 from St Wenceslaus Church with Rev X Till officiating. burial at Catholic Cemetery.
Chicago reports that stenographer Etta McLean, jailed for stealing government papers, may reveal a vast plot involving lawyers, monopolists, and high financiers. Grand jury testimony in December or January is expected to implicate Walsh, Standard Oil, and others, with ties to Boston and possible pardons linked to Hartwell Stafford.
Bert Lang of 1925 South Sixteenth Street and Anton Jacobsen of 615 South Third Street were fined $5 and costs by Judge Brindley after pleading guilty to raising a disturbance and destroying property at Boulevard hall on the Mormon Coulee road Saturday night. Henry Miller, owner of the saloon, complained. Lang, Jacobsen and several friends caused a small riot during the weekend dance.
Georgetown November 19. Court coverage of the Powers case showed a hard clash over the Harrison county cenue. It may be necessary to go to Fayette to obtain a jury as sheriffs Harrison and Scott face a trial accused of discrimination in selecting the center.
In St Joseph Michigan Lester Wyckoff a 12 year old boy is jailed awaiting execution of Victor Alden after a rabbit hunt incident during which Alden died from a gunshot. Alden reportedly told authorities Wyckoff threatened him and fired the weapon but Wyckoff denies the conversation and says he was aiming at a rabbit.
Madison Wis Nov 19 The State Railroad Commission opened hearings on Herman L Ekern's plea to change Green Bay and Western train schedules through Trempealeau Valley but railroad attorney John C Gaveny argued the matter falls outside state jurisdiction as the train originates in Winona Minn an interstate service Officials agreed to hear testimony on train starts and schedules and to file briefs on jurisdiction A further hearing set for Dec 19
Merchants plan to appoint a committee to urge Burlington railway to reinstate the old northbound schedule stopping at Prairie du Chien and Stoddard. A petition asking the state commission to direct the change has not yet been filed. Progress will be discussed at a Merchants' association meeting tomorrow night. if no private agreement is reached, the petition may be filed before the December 19 hearing.

Ralph Flannigan 26 cashier of First National Bank of Pleasantville shot himself in a tent during personal crisis in Des Moines Iowa on Nov 18. Cause unknown, bank believed in good shape. He had served as cashier for two years.
Chicago November 19 committees of local unions of the switchmen's national organization hold conferences that may call a strike of 22000 switchmen and 25000 freight handlers. The switchmen seek a 6 cent an hour increase and a shorter work day.
Paris reports that Dr Vaillant unveiled at the Academy of Sciences a potential absolute death test using X ray photographs. He described experiments showing X ray pictures of the intestines differ between living and dead subjects, with clear distinctions in corpses but not in living individuals.
