Health Board Increase Plan Gets Approval
City committees Wednesday night recommended expanding the board of health to seven members including one alderman two doctors one dentist and three other citizens. Alder man Walter Roth introduced the ordinance and noted it follows state health board suggestions. The mayor would appoint members for three year terms and the health officer could serve as president or an officer. A separate plan for a city department of finance and purchase was deferred pending more data from other cities.

Appleton Minister Killed In Sparta Crash
The Rev. Edwin Bruns of Appleton, 60, was killed when his car collided head on with a vehicle driven by Sgt. Raymond Larson near Sparta Wisconsin on STH 21. Bruns wife Emma Bruns 50 was injured as were three soldiers from Camp McCoy. An inquest was planned for Thursday as hospital conditions improved.

The Coulee Region saw traces of the season’s first snow on Thursday morning as wintry weather sets in. Meteorologist A. D. Sanial forecasts cloudy, windy, cold conditions with more flurries Thursday night and partly cloudy, still cold weather Friday with diminishing winds. Temperatures dip to 22 in the city and 18 in rural areas Thursday night, then rise to just below freezing Friday afternoon. Superior reports three inches of snow by 7 am, with smaller amounts elsewhere in the north. The vast cold air mass from Canada covers two thirds of the nation, with Wyoming stations recording subzero lows and several inches of snow.
