Oiler killed at power house during switchboard cleaning

August Koch an oiler for La Crosse Gas and Electric was electrocuted at 2 40 pm while cleaning a switchboard at the company's power house. He received 2000 volts and died five minutes later despite a palmotor device demonstration intended to resuscitate electric shock victims.

Tear Down Old School for New Armory in La Crosse

The old second ward school is being razed by La Crosse Wrecking Company to make way for a new armory. Work must finish in seventy days, with brick and radiators preserved for use. The drill hall will measure 60 by 110 feet, with basement and spectator gallery, two story front, and Bentley as the lead designer. Plans are on exhibit at Oyen Company on Main Street.

Railway coal rate request denied in Chicago district

The Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railway petitioned for a ten cent per ton increase on coal shipments from connecting carriers to points inside the Chicago switching district. The Interstate Commerce Commission denied the request today.

Judge Edward Cronon for the G A R urges citizens especially children to wear flags and participate. Parents and teachers are asked to remind schoolchildren to secure flags for Memorial Day at 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.

Wisconsin Bankers Hear Thwing On Money Control And Recess

J A Thwing of the Security Savings Bank La Crosse addressed eighty five bankers at a western Wisconsin gathering. He argued for a central reserve agency with leaders who have no private interests and emphasized the need for cooperative banking reforms. The meeting opened with a roll call and panel topics before Thwing praised Wisconsin banks amid strong state economic signals.

Wisconsin Senate votes to recess amid marketing commission debate

In Madison on May 26 the Wisconsin Senate approved a June 12 1913 to January 13 1914 recess with 20 votes to 11. The Assembly later indefinitely postponed the Mahon market ing commission bill after a protracted session and debate. A legislative investigation of anti trust and cooperative issues was proposed for Thursday.
