Baby Recovers From Rare Window Over Heart Surgery
A 19 day old baby, Charles Michael Kochensparger, recovering after emergency operation to close a heart window caused by a split sternum. Born May 8 at St Ann's Hospital as a twin, he weighed four pounds eight ounces and was treated at Children’s Hospital by a surgeon from Ohio State University Medical School. The operation used silk stitches to join the breastbone while it was still soft. The child has been gaining weight and is progressing well.

Funeral for Pvt. Roy A. Young Friday in La Crosse
Pvt Roy A Young killed in France on June 30 1944 will be returned to La Crosse Wednesday evening for burial. Funeral services at 8 30 am Friday at Giaschke funeral home and 9 am at Holy Trinity Church with Msgr Vic Plecity officiating. Burial in Catholic cemetery. Rosary 7 30 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Survivors are his parents five sisters and a sister in law all of La Crosse and a sister in Levon Texas. He was born January 18 1921 in La Crosse and a 1939 Aquinas High School graduate. He worked for Trane before enlisting October 12 1943 and trained at Camp Wolters Texas and Fort George Meade Md going overseas May 1944. His remains will be escorted home by a military party.
