Wisconsin Chief Justice Horace Wilkie dies in Pittsburgh
Horace W. Wilkie 59 chief justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court died of a heart attack in a Pittsburgh suburb while visiting his daughter. Appointed to the court in 1962 and elevated to chief justice in 1974 he led a reform drive and supported creating an appellate court. Gov. Lucey will appoint a replacement. Bruce Beilfuss becomes interim chief justice.

Two people died and two were injured when a car left Pine Creek Road west of La Crescent and plunged down an embankment. The dead are Ricky Walter 26 and Matthew Pfiffner 16. Driver Gale Domabyl 19 and passenger Corine Denzer 21 were hospitalized in La Crosse with serious injuries. Pfiffner was a Hokah High student with family in Hokah and La Crosse.
