In Northern Ireland and the Republic intense political activity culminated in parliamentary elections. Delegates nominated without opposition will form the new parliament as violence and protests marked voting day in Cork and other regions. Police intervened as crowds gathered, with several injuries and property damage reported amid a tense election morning.
Police court proceedings fined drivers for traffic violations on Monday. An arrest involved a charge of driving while impaired, with defendants Wimmer and Clyde Tills among those fined. A separate case saw a parking violation on Glewinds Street resulting in a $50 fine. One driver deposited $1 for spread fencing or related fees.
Frigid fronts and unsettled air bring cooler conditions across Vermont and nearby areas on Wednesday with chances of showers. Expect unsettled weather to continue into Thursday with notably cooler temperatures northward and potential thunderstorm activity in some portions.

Eight-pound trout, believed largest in the region, was caught Monday evening from the Big Creek mill dam near Bangor by miller Joseph Gillis. The German brown measured thirty inches. Word reached La Crosse from R. O W. Davis, county board chairman. A four-pound trout was caught days earlier by Lee Smith. Fishermen from Bangor and Salem flocked to the dam to see the big catch.
Madison and Platteville areas report lightning fatalities during a Monday electrical storm. Victor Morrissey, 19, of McJean and two others died after being struck while near or under trees. The storm swept across southern Minnesota into Wisconsin, causing damage and loss in several towns.
Madison Wig The administration marketing bill passes the assembly but faces Senate scrutiny with a separate appropriation bill of 418000. The measure aims to fund a new marketing commission, keep the program self supporting, and extend operations though opposition favors a stronger market unit and criticizes the plan.
Robert F. L. Dempst oy of Kansas confessed at Central police station Monday that he deserted from Camp Grant on April 5, having served in the army. He said he belonged to the Putty first infancy machine battalion stationed at the Illinois nest. Camp Grant authorities were notified Tuesday and a guard was to be sent for his return.
Reported plan envisions a federation of British possessions in the Americas. A conference in Washington proposes confederation of British America including Canada, Bahamas, Caribbean colonies, Jamaica, Leeward and Windward Islands, Trinidad, possibly British Honduras. Censorship in North Central and South Britain possessions cited.
Chicago reports the railroad labor board will cut wages from ten to fifteen percent based on the July 1920 wage award. A tentative schedule set for June 2 outlines percentage reductions by employee class after a week of deliberation.
Wisconsin Governor John J. Blaine urges a fitting Memorial Day observance across the state.
