States Senator James F. Shaw of Massachusetts files for absolute divorce against Nettie E. Shaw and names H. Reno Marble as co-respondent. He seeks custody of their son Eldridge Shaw while Mrs. Shaw contemplates separate maintenance and legal separation. The couple’s troubles include a past attempt by Shaw detectives to take the boy from his mother in Los Angeles where she worked at a moving picture show run by Marble who later disappeared.
President Fassett A. Cotton of the La Crosse state normal school and Senator Thomas Morris of this city will oversee furnishing the new normal school building. Regents at the Stoddard hotel conducted the discussion and left supervision to two local committee members. The resignation of President J W Livingston of Platteville state normal school was presented and accepted amid ongoing audits. Regents adjourned for the June Madison meeting to plan the opening and dedication of the school.
May 22 report says Prince Ito plans to resign as Japanese resident general of Korea and be succeeded by Viscount Sone, the assistant resident general.
The second annual grade school field meet in Crosse ends with Seventh district first, Sixth second, First third, Second fourth. Klow wins 100 yard dash in 11.15 seconds and 300 yard dash in 34.25 seconds, earning the meet champion title with 15 points. Wiles of the Second district close contender with 9 points. Event results note pole vault where Wiles leads and Jahemiack second. The High School Athletic Association organized the meet to spur younger boys into athletics.
City ministers receive admission tickets for the Flynn Health Lecture at the First Methodist church on Monday evening. Congregation members may obtain tickets from their minister tomorrow morning or by visiting The Tribune office this evening or Monday. Free admission is by ticket only. Prof Flynn is assisted by Miss Elva Bosworth who runs the women's meetings during the campaign.
The New Y M C A announces the arrival of A C Gran and Mrs Gran from Mankato next Tuesday. From 8 to 10 a.m. a city church reception at Congregational church, chaired by Mrs Judge John Brindley, welcomes the newcomers. Gran, known for Y M C A work in Mankato, oversees early building openings July 1 with furnishings to follow after consultations with directors.
President Taft signed a proclamation opening one million acres for settlement in the Couer d Alene Idaho Spokane Washington and Flathead Montana reservations. Registration runs July 15 to August 5 with the drawing slated for August 9. Registration sites listed at Kalispell Missoula Snokane Couer d Alene and Spokane.
Senator Aldrich urged June 2 as the final vote date on the tariff bill. Senator Daniel objected and the matter was postponed.
Wisconsin forecasts call for fair tonight and Sunday with little temperature change. Minnesota expects generally fair conditions east and possible showers in the west tonight or Sunday. Iowa shows fair tonight and Sunday with stable temperatures. River levels stay steady or rise slightly with no major changes expected.
