Cpl. Michael B. Turner 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Turner Onalaska Wisconsin died May 11 from wounds in a firefight in Vietnam. A 1967 Onalaska High School graduate Turner entered service in August 1967 and earned an achievement award at Ft. Polk Louisiana. Survived by four brothers a sister grandparents and a funeral home announces services later.

Laborers Accept Pact with La Crosse Firms
Laborers Local 140 approved a three year contract with the La Crosse Construction Employers Association. The deal includes wage gains of 25 cents per hour on Monday, 15 cents on Sept 30, 25 cents and a 15 cent employer pension contribution next April 1, and a 40 cent rise on April 1, 1970, bringing pay scales to 3.12 to 4.00 per hour depending on work. Local 140 did not strike but honored picket lines from other unions. Carpenters Local 1143 will meet Saturday at 9 30 a m to review the offer, Plumbers Local 31 will meet Sunday to assess progress. Miners Face Return to Gauley No 8 After Rescue
Six men survived a 233 hour ordeal in Gauley Coal and Coke No 8 mine after flooding trapped them underground. John Moore Jr and Larry Lynch said they would return to mining if needed while others weighed their options.
