The jury in the George Koch murder case against Dr. Louis A. Gebhardt for the New Ulm killing last November failed to reach a verdict at noon today and was discharged. This marks the second trial with a third possible but unlikely.
In Kenosha Wisconsin on May 15 a fire engulfed the post office and parts of Main Street. Sixteen year old John Smith is reported missing amid the blaze.
Vice President Fairbanks spends a brief Indiana stay at his home before leaving for Portland for the Lewis and Clark exposition opening. He will visit his Illinois farm, speak at Flint on June 7, address Iowa State University on June 15, and attend commencements at Ohio Wesleyan University on June 19 and 23.

The George Floty assault case returned before Judge Brindley this morning. The courtroom filled with swarthy Syrians for about ten minutes before adjournment for one month. Floty allegedly told officers he would knife them when they rest him. A counter warrant was issued against Eloty, who was arrested and bound to keep the peace.
Property of Alma R. Osborne described as lot 3 block 8 Clinton and Rublee addition to La Crosse was sold today to Mr. B. E. Edwards and R. E. Osborne. The lot on Division Street between Tenth and Eleventh adjoins R. E. Osborne’s property damaged by fire.
A fire at a celluloid company in Vienna sparked a further blast that wounded fifty workers, with some described as fatally injured. The explosion occurred during the blaze today, causing extensive damage to the plant and nearby facilities.
Nic Bison of Brownsville killed 26 rattlesnakes in one afternoon in the bluffs near the town. Captain Winslow of the steamer City of Hudson brought in one of the largest skins today and plans to tan it for a belt.
Last night unknown burglars broke into Brownesville railway station, pried open the cash drawer and took $2.70 and a suit of clothes. They later opened two valves in the building. contents of the valves unknown. No arrests reported.
The aged La Crosse machinist James Craig was found face down in about two and a half feet of water in Pettibone park slough by Charles Leisgang and his wife while they fished nearby. A bridge pass dated May 4 and a watch were found on the body, leading police to suspect death by other causes than drowning after noting the water level had dropped in the past ten days. The body was taken to Miller Bros. morgue and identified. further investigation continued to determine the exact cause.
W L Robinson a 40 year old San Diego gardener drove through a murder rampage after a morning intoxication. He killed Mrs Stewart and her son Willis in a tenement room then shot H W Chase the carpenter, then killed Doddridge and wounded Mrs Doddridge before taking his own life by shooting himself.
The rear coach of No 6 Milwaukee passenger out of this city jumped the track at West Salem at noon and was abandoned. The train ran on after a short delay, no injuries reported, and wrecking crews are at work. The line remains usable as trains run around the wreck on double track.
Admiral Dewey who was taken ill in New York Saturday is better this morning. Miss Estelle Wolcott leaves tomorrow for an extended visit in North and South Dakota.

Mrs. Catherine Rey died yesterday at her home, 416 North Tenth Street, aged 86, due to old age. She leaves six grown children, all but one residing in La Crosse. Funeral at 2 p.m. tomorrow from the residence with Rev. Julius Gamm officiating and Theodore Mannstedt in charge. Interment in Oak Grove cemetery.
