Western Wisconsin Technical Institute officials project a 13.9 percent budget rise to about 8.4 million for 1976 77 starting July 1. The board questions 120 000 for ten teaching posts 90 000 for equipment and 65 000 for nine CETA employees while noting educational programs would affect 430 plus students if cuts occurred. The bill rate would fall to 1.4149 though taxes may rise with higher district valuation, and decisions proceed at June meetings with a public hearing on June 29.
Gov. Lucey ordered state agencies to back Exxon USA as exploration near Crandon, Forest County pursues a major zinc copper discovery. Exxon's early drill results show a metallic sulfide zone with zinc and copper among other metals, with commercialization years away.
La Crosse County Board Chairman William Bush urged the Planning Committee to consider a new 226 bed Hillview nursing home east of the current building at 3501 Park Lane Drive with an estimated cost of 3 to 4 million dollars. No action taken. another meeting in about two weeks to review alternatives.
The Army proposes a 25 year joint lease with Sparta to use Ft McCoy airfield for civilian takeoffs and landings and 90 acres of land. The city would set insurance minimas and pay utilities while the Air Force would set landing fees and appraisal processes proceed.
