District Attorney John S. Coleman announced that the leading murder theory linked to Dr. James E. McLoone’s death has collapsed. About a half dozen people are being questioned on Theory No. 2 as investigators press for new information, with no arrests made.
Henry A. Wallace urged a six step program to end the cold war at a Madison Square Garden rally. The third party candidate called for general disarmament, outlawing weapons of mass destruction, export bans, renewed US-Soviet trade, free scientific exchanges, and a UN agency for relief distributed internationally. Wallace was joined by running mate Sen. Glen Taylor.
Tokyo reports Tsunezo Wa ehi a Japanese navy captain turned priest seeks exile for war criminals including ex Premier Tojo. In a plea to the Allied tribunal trying 25 high Japanese he compares Napoleon's St Helena exile to Iwo Jima. Wachi commanded Iwo Jima during the war.

Dr. Louis E. Reber, aged 90, died in West Palm Beach Florida. He was the dean of the University of Wisconsin extension school from 1907 to 1926. Under his leadership the division expanded from a small bureau to a statewide program offering practical courses for citizens of all ages.

Milwaukee nine ex internal revenue officials led by former Wisconsin collector Frank J. Kuhl were charged in warrants with conspiring to solicit political campaign funds. The grand jury indicted Kuhl and eight others for violations of the Pendleton Act between 1941 and 1947 in Milwaukee Brown counties and other locations.

Judge Robert S. Cowie presided a short circuit court session settling the Eckert v Eckert case. Sylvia Eckert claimed Henry Eckert owed 143 dollars for 30 weeks of board and two tires paid by her husband, but the judge ruled only eight dollars plus costs due, deeming the rest a merit dispute.
