A 16 year old Chicago boy Theodore Phillips was wounded by a police shot ending a long chase through Milwaukee railroad yards and near Swan son field after he fled from home. Det Willard Sill fired the shot. Phillips said you have to shoot me to stop me. He was hospitalized with a broken leg.

Paul Marcou of La Crosse is elected department commander of the Wisconsin Catholic War Veterans at the closing Oshkosh convention. La Crosse Aquinas band won the band competition defeating Milwaukee Madison Racine Oshkosh Stevens Point and Menasha. Bishop McGavick's post 421 won the color guard trophy and placed third with its drill team. The 1950 meeting was awarded to Madison after a two day convention. Wind storm leaves Coulee area in cleanup mode
Weary residents in the Coulee Region spent Monday clearing debris after a damaging wind event last Friday and Saturday. Major destruction centered on a 50 by 100 foot Ameri can Foliage Mart warehouse at Millston, with a roof lifted and sides crushed, storing moss and two vehicles badly damaged. Power lines and trees disrupted services across Tomah, Mauston, Necedah, and surrounding towns, with crews repairing lines overnight. In Minnesota, a large barn collapsed near Ridgeway and Harpers Ferry suffered widespread wind damage. Fire crews responded to several incidents as communications and power were knocked out in the region.

In Rimouski Quebec a weekend blaze left about 2,500 homeless and caused 20 million dollars in damage. The fire destroyed 312 homes and numerous buildings, including hospitals schools and hotels. Wind gusts up to 80 mph fanned flames that began when a power line ignited lumber mills. No deaths were reported. Red Cross treated injuries asMaj. Gen. Morton announced control after dawn Sunday.
